Statement

The pawn is a metaphor for how we navigate the systems we are embedded in. Not the chess pawn, but the piece as a way to interact with the rules of a game that nobody knows entirely, and which is in a constant process of expansion and transformation.

The board itself is nobody's design. Rules produce incentives, people adapt to those incentives, and this adaptation accumulates until the rules no longer mean what they meant. Without anyone having amended them. The ground you stand on was laid by people responding to conditions that no longer exist, and your movement across it changes what it will be for those who come next.

The artworks reflect this dynamic: boards that extend toward the horizon and blend into nature; rule-based tiling that meets organic shapes in a constant, delicate negotiation.

From another angle, the artifacts we create carry our agency, projecting it across the board. Simple everyday objects or complex technology, each in its own way.

Following this motif, some illustrations depict people in ordinary situations with a pawn casually placed beside them. Close enough to be a companion, near enough to be watching. Whether it plays the role of assistant or antagonist is a question I leave open. Not as a grim observation, but as necessary knowledge in the search for a world where humanity may flourish and express its full potential.
